Wusum Stars Football Club have confirmed club legend Mohamed “Daddy” Conteh, popularly known as Daddy Salcus, as their permanent head coach on a one-year contract ahead of the 2026/27 Leone Rock Premier League season.
The appointment, confirmed on 4 August 2026, follows Conteh’s successful spell as interim coach towards the end of the 2025/26 campaign, when he helped the Makeni based side retain their Premier League status.
Conteh guided Wusum Stars through their final four matches of the season, securing two wins and two draws to steer the club away from relegation.

Conteh began his football journey on the streets of Makeni, Bombali District, before rising through the ranks to become one of Wusum Stars’ most celebrated players.
Regarded as one of the club’s standout players of his generation, he later played for East End Lions, Central Parade and Mighty Blackpool, where his pace, composure and finishing ability established him as one of Sierra Leone’s prolific strikers.
His performances earned him a call up to the Leone Stars national team in the early 2000s.
Conteh later took his career abroad, joining Fanja Sports Club in Oman in 2002 before moving to Al Ahly SC Nabatieh in Lebanon in 2006. He also had a spell in Dubai.
From Player to Referee and Coach
After retiring from professional football, Conteh remained involved in the sport, becoming an elite referee and officiating in Sierra Leone’s top-flight league between 2013 and 2021.
He later turned his attention to coaching and obtained a CAF D Licence. During his development as a coach, he worked under experienced football figures, including Mohamed Lamin Kamara, whom he credits with inspiring his coaching ambitions.
His permanent appointment now presents a new challenge as he seeks to build on last season’s survival and guide Wusum Stars towards a stronger campaign in 2026/27.
With one of the club’s most recognisable former players now taking charge from the technical area, expectations are high that Conteh can help rebuild the team, strengthen its competitiveness and restore Wusum Stars’ status as a force in Sierra Leonean football.
