Limount College has commemorated its 30th anniversary with a vibrant Health Walk that brought together students, teachers, alumni, parents, and supporters in a colourful display of unity, wellness, and school pride.
Held on Saturday, 27 June 2026, the event formed one of the flagship activities marking three decades of the institution’s contribution to education in Sierra Leone. Organised under the theme, “Promoting Healthy Living Through Exercise and Wellness,” the programme emphasized the importance of physical fitness, healthy lifestyles, and community engagement while celebrating the school’s rich history and achievements since its establishment in 1996.
The day began in the early morning with participants assembling at the Limount College campus for registration. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as current students reunited with former classmates, teachers interacted with alumni, and parents joined in support of the school’s milestone celebration.
The programme officially commenced with an opening prayer led by Jeanne Damba Marke, setting a reflective and appreciative tone for the day’s activities. Participants were then welcomed by the Chairperson, Mamie Amie Sarah Lansana, who expressed gratitude for the impressive turnout and described the health walk as an opportunity to celebrate not only the school’s anniversary but also the enduring bond shared by generations of Limountonians.
She encouraged everyone present to embrace healthier lifestyles through regular physical activity while strengthening the sense of community that has remained one of the institution’s defining characteristics over the past three decades. According to her, the event represented more than an exercise session; it symbolized unity, friendship, and a shared commitment to the continued growth of Limount College.
Delivering her remarks, the Principal, Mrs. Aubee, praised the dedication of the organizing committee and thanked students, staff, alumni, parents, and well-wishers for making the event a success. She noted that the overwhelming participation reflected the strong attachment many people continue to have to the institution and reaffirmed Limount College’s commitment to nurturing disciplined, responsible, and academically excellent students.
Mrs. Aubee described the health walk as an expression of the school’s guiding principles of Progress, Integrity, and Excellence, emphasizing that education extends beyond the classroom to include the promotion of healthy living, teamwork, leadership, and positive social values.
She encouraged students to adopt healthy habits that would benefit them throughout their lives while urging alumni to remain active ambassadors of the school by supporting initiatives that contribute to its continued development.
As part of the programme, participants received valuable health education from medical professionals who highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare. Dr. Hannah M. Kaillon delivered a presentation focusing on the physical and mental health benefits of regular exercise, explaining how consistent physical activity can reduce the risk of chronic illnesses, improve cardiovascular health, strengthen mental well-being, and enhance overall quality of life.
Another presentation was delivered by Dr. Mariama M. Bangura, who spoke extensively on non-communicable diseases and their increasing prevalence among young people. She encouraged participants to make informed lifestyle choices by maintaining balanced diets, exercising regularly, avoiding harmful habits, and seeking routine medical check-ups to reduce the risk of preventable illnesses.
Following the health talks, participants engaged in a guided warm-up and stretching session designed to prepare them physically before embarking on the walk.
The health walk then proceeded along an approved route through several major streets in Freetown, beginning at Limount College and passing through King Harman Road, Water Street, Main Motor Road, Congo Cross, Murray Town Junction, Wilkinson Road, Aberdeen Road Junction, Sir Samuel Lewis Road, before concluding at Aberdeen Road. Along the route, participants displayed banners and anniversary messages while interacting with members of the public, helping to promote awareness about healthy living and the significance of regular exercise.
The anniversary activity concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Emily Fanday, representing the Class of 2013, who expressed appreciation to everyone whose contributions ensured the success of the programme. Selena Browne later delivered a call to action, encouraging alumni and supporters to continue investing their time, expertise, and resources in the growth of the institution.
The event ended on a patriotic and emotional note with the singing of the Limount College school song, reinforcing the strong sense of belonging shared by generations of students.
As Limount College celebrates 30 years of educational excellence, the Health Walk served as a reminder of the institution’s commitment not only to academic achievement but also to promoting healthy lifestyles, community service, and lifelong connections among its students and alumni.
Carrying the anniversary slogan, “Together We Walk. Together We Grow. Together We Build Limount,” the celebration reflected the school’s enduring legacy while inspiring the entire Limount community to continue working together in support of its future development. The event also reaffirmed the institution’s belief that good health, active citizenship, and quality education remain essential foundations for building successful individuals and stronger communities.
