Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) has awarded NLe 30,000 to Abdul Bilal Mohamed Koroma, winner of the 2026 Population and Housing Census Logo Competition, during a media briefing held on 16 January 2026 at the Stats SL Headquarters on King Street, Kona Lodge.
The award marks the culmination of a nationwide initiative by Stats SL aimed at promoting inclusivity, creativity, and public participation ahead of the 2026 census. The competition invited submissions from across the country, with designs reflecting the values and objectives of the census.
Speaking at the event, Stats SL representatives emphasized that the competition is part of the agency’s broader commitment to citizen engagement in national statistical processes. They noted that the winning logo captures themes of unity, development, and the importance of accurate data collection—key elements for a successful census.
Upon receiving the prize, Abdul Bilal Mohamed Koroma expressed excitement and gratitude. “I am honored to have my design selected to represent the 2026 Population and Housing Census. I hope it inspires fellow Sierra Leoneans to participate fully and understand the importance of the census in shaping our country’s future,” he said.
The 2026 Population and Housing Census is a vital national exercise that will provide essential data for policy-making, development planning, and resource allocation. Initiatives such as the logo competition aim to foster public awareness and ownership of the census, ensuring citizens recognize the value of accurate data.
The cheque presentation concluded with a pledge by Stats SL to continue public engagement activities in the lead-up to the census, reinforcing the agency’s commitment to inclusivity, transparency, and participatory governance.
