The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), under the leadership of President Babadi Kamara, has unveiled a landmark football ecosystem aimed at transforming the nation’s sporting landscape. The official announcement, made on October 20, 2025, marks a major step toward building a structured, competitive, and sustainable football calendar in Sierra Leone.
According to the SLFA, the new ecosystem will kick off with the Men’s and Women’s Super Cups on October 31, 2025, followed by the Men’s and Women’s Premier Leagues, Men’s Division 1 and 2 Leagues, Women’s Division 1 League, Youth Leagues, and the FA Cup.
The decision follows an Executive Committee meeting held on October 19, 2025, which adopted key resolutions after a nationwide consultation under the theme “Revamping the Football Ecosystem and Finding a Workable Football Calendar.” The SLFA stated that the new framework is designed to strengthen the country’s football structure, ensure regular competition, and establish a calendar that promotes long-term development.
One of the most striking aspects of the announcement is the temporary suspension of relegation from the previous top-tier leagues and the Division 1 and 2 categories for both men and women. This decision, while unconventional, is seen as part of a broader strategy to stabilize clubs and allow them to rebuild under the new system.
Sports analysts describe the move as a reflection of Babadi Kamara’s transformative agenda for Sierra Leonean football — one rooted in structure, transparency, and sustainable growth. His administration’s focus, they note, has been to professionalize the game, create equal opportunities for men and women, and develop a strong grassroots foundation across all regions.
For many football fans and stakeholders, this new ecosystem represents more than just a change in format — it is a vision for a new era of consistency, inclusivity, and progress in Sierra Leone’s football.
