APC Fined NLe120,000

The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has imposed a fine of NLe120,000 on the All Peoples Congress (APC) following what it described as a breach of the Political Parties Act (No. 25) of 2022, specifically Section 39(1)(d), which prohibits inflammatory political conduct.
According to the Commission, the sanction stems from comments made by Hon. Lahai Marrah, the APC’s Falaba District Chairman, during a public civic engagement convened by the Tripartite Steering Committee Secretariat at the Falaba District Council Hall on Saturday, November 15.
The PPRC classified Marrah’s statements as “inciting and capable of provoking unrest,” noting that such language undermines the spirit of national cohesion and peaceful democratic dialogue.
In a formal communication, the Commission emphasized that the APC had already been cautioned—through a letter dated November 11—to ensure compliance with the Act and to prevent any conduct that could escalate political tensions during the ongoing national consultations.
Despite the warning, the Commission says the party failed to restrain its district chairman from making remarks that were inconsistent with the requirements of responsible political engagement.
As a result, the PPRC has directed the APC to pay the NLe120,000 penalty within 14 days, stressing that adherence to the Act is mandatory and that future violations will attract stiffer consequences.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining order across all political platforms and ensuring that public engagements remain safe, respectful, and constructive.
