The Marampa community in Safroko Limba Chiefdom, Bombali District has received a road safety boost with the construction of speed bumps along the Binkolo–Kabala highway, thanks to the efforts of Ward 114 Councillor, Mrs. Esther Burah Kanu.
Councillor Kanu revealed that the process of lobbying for the speed bumps was lengthy and challenging, involving numerous meetings with community stakeholders, the Sierra Leone Roads Transport Authority (SLRTA), and the tarmac company.
“I was on this lobbying for several months. The energy and resources invested to make this happen could fill a long story. I thank God for His guidance and blessings,” she said.
The announcement and construction of the speed bumps were met with joy and active participation from community members. The town chief expressed gratitude, highlighting that previous efforts by the community to install speed bumps had failed.
“Councillor Kanu’s determination made this possible. Her leadership and influence are commendable,” the town chief stated.
Marampa, located three miles from Binkolo, sits along a curve on the Binkolo–Kabala highway, a spot notorious for fatal accidents. This year alone, the community has witnessed two deadly crashes, including one that claimed the life of an elderly woman in the village center.
The installation of the speed bumps is expected to reduce accidents and enhance safety for motorists and residents along this dangerous stretch of road.
