The Council of Churches in Sierra Leone (CCSL) has expanded its nationwide outreach with the opening of a new Psychosocial Counselling and Resource Centre in Magburaka, aimed at promoting mental wellness, community healing, and social resilience.
Unveiled under the theme “Restoring Hope, Strengthening Lives,” the initiative represents a major leap in CCSL’s mission to support individuals and families dealing with trauma, loss, and hardship. The facility is designed to serve as a hub for counselling, rehabilitation, and empowerment, providing people in Tonkolili District and beyond with a safe environment to rebuild their lives.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, CCSL officials emphasized that the centre’s creation reflects the organization’s commitment to holistic development — focusing not only on spiritual growth but also on emotional recovery and mental stability. They praised the unwavering support of Bread for the World, whose partnership made the project possible, along with contributions from CCSL member churches across Sierra Leone.
Government officials and community representatives at the event applauded the initiative as a timely response to the growing need for mental health and psychosocial support services in post-crisis communities. Survivors and beneficiaries also shared testimonies of transformation through church-led interventions.
The Magburaka centre will offer counselling sessions, training programs, and community outreach to address trauma, gender-based violence, and family conflict — reaffirming the vital role of faith-based organizations in strengthening social cohesion and restoring dignity to vulnerable populations.
