SIERRA LEONE ASSOCIATION OF HOTELS KICKS OFF 5-DAY PROFESSIONAL TRAINING FOR HOTEL & RESTAURANT STAFF IN MAKENI

The Sierra Leone Association of Hotels has commenced a five-day training on professional hotel and restaurant services at the Wusum Hotel in Makeni.

Over 50 trainees drawn from hotels, guest houses, bars and restaurants across the Northern Region are participating in the program. The training targets kitchen staff, front desk officers, and housekeepers.

Facilitating the session is Trainer Jean Paul Hubert from France, who was brought in by the Hotels Association. With over 50 years of experience in the hospitality industry across continents, Mr. Hubert will train staff from the North East, South, and Western Area over the course of one month.

Speaking at the opening, John Shalop, President of the Sierra Leone Association of Hotels, said the training is designed to increase the capacity of hotel staff and align service delivery with international best practices.

He encouraged participants to take the training seriously, noting that transferring knowledge to young hotel staff will help address key challenges in the industry, especially in front desk management, kitchen operations, and housekeeping.

Mr. Shallop added that all participants will receive certificates at the end of the training, with a closing ceremony scheduled for Friday 4th September,2026 at the Wusum Hotel.

The initiative is part of the Association’s broader efforts to professionalize Sierra Leone’s hospitality sector and raise service standards nationwide.
