The Bombali District Council has officially handed over project sites to contractors for the implementation of key development projects in Bombali Siari and Ngowahun Chiefdoms under Round Three of the Accountable Governance for Basic Service Delivery Project (AGBSDP).
The handover ceremonies, held in Rokontha and Kalangba on 9 and 11 July 2026, marked the commencement of infrastructure projects aimed at improving education, youth empowerment, water supply, sanitation and renewable energy in the two chiefdoms.
In Bombali Siari Chiefdom, the project includes the completion and rehabilitation of an existing three-classroom school block, construction of an additional three-classroom block, rehabilitation of a hand-dug well, installation of a solar power system, construction of separate VIP toilet facilities for boys and girls, and the provision of furniture for all six classrooms.
Meanwhile, Ngowahun Chiefdom will benefit from the construction of a multipurpose youth-friendly hall, an overhead water tank, a hand-dug well, a solar power system, a VIP toilet facility and furniture for the new centre.
The two chiefdoms become the fifth and sixth beneficiaries of the council’s comprehensive infrastructure programme under the AGBSDP, following similar interventions in Paki Masabong, Bombali Sebora, Safroko Limba and Mara Chiefdoms.
Speaking during the handover, Bombali District Council Chairman, Dr. Mohamed Mark Barbah Sisay, described the projects as more than physical infrastructure, saying they represent investments in the future of local communities.
He said the initiative reflects the council’s commitment to expanding access to quality education, improving basic services and creating opportunities for young people across the district.
Addressing residents, particularly the youth of Ngowahun, Dr. Sisay urged them to take ownership of the new facilities and protect them for future generations.
“Together we build. Together we own. Together we prosper,” he said, calling on community members to support the successful implementation and sustainability of the projects.
The Chairman also expressed appreciation to the Government of Sierra Leone, development partners, line ministries, council staff and community stakeholders for supporting the initiative, noting that the projects respond directly to priorities identified by the beneficiary communities.
The infrastructure projects are expected to be completed within six months, after which they will be handed over to the communities for use.
