Bombali DHMT Calms Ebola Fears

By Mahamood Fofana

The District Health Management Team (DHMT) in Bombali has stepped up public awareness and surveillance efforts to reassure residents following reports of a resurgence of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Speaking in an interview, the district’s Risk Communication and Social Mobilisation Lead, Mohamed Conteh, said the DHMT is implementing the Ministry of Health’s preparedness strategy through intensified community outreach and monitoring activities.

“Active surveillance is ongoing at all cross-border entry points,” Conteh said, assuring the public that health authorities remain vigilant.

He added that Rapid Response Teams across the district have been activated and placed on standby to respond swiftly to any suspected Ebola case.

“For now, there is no confirmed case of Ebola in Bombali or anywhere in Sierra Leone. People should remain calm,” he stated, while encouraging residents to report any unusual illnesses or suspicious movements within their communities.

Meanwhile, the government has reportedly released an initial US$1.7 million to strengthen Ebola preparedness and response efforts across the country.

Health officials continue to emphasise the importance of public awareness, early detection, and community cooperation as critical measures in preventing any potential outbreak.
