Usif Kamara Elected Bombali Shebora Chief

By Mahamood Fofana

Usif Kamara has been officially elected as the new Paramount Chief of Bombali Shebora Chiefdom following a peaceful and closely monitored runoff election conducted on April 12, 2026. The decisive vote took place at the Practising Primary School Compound, drawing participation from key stakeholders, traditional authorities, and eligible voters across the chiefdom.

Upon his election, Usif Kamara assumes the revered title of PC Bai Sebora N’gbalan II, marking a new chapter in the leadership of the chiefdom. He secured a commanding victory with 1,035 votes, significantly outpacing his closest rival, Sullay Edward Kamara, who garnered 327 votes. The margin of victory reflects a strong mandate from the people, signaling confidence in his leadership and vision for the chiefdom’s future.

The runoff election became necessary after an initial round that featured nine candidates failed to produce a winner meeting the constitutional threshold of 55 percent. In that first round, Usif Kamara led with 52.26 percent of the vote, followed by Sullay Edward Kamara with 18.90 percent, necessitating a head-to-head contest between the two frontrunners.

The electoral process was widely commended for its transparency, organization, and adherence to democratic principles within the traditional governance framework. A notable security presence ensured that the atmosphere remained calm and orderly throughout the exercise, allowing voters to cast their ballots without fear or disruption. The process was supervised by Ishaga M. Turay, whose oversight contributed to the credibility of the election.

Civil society observers and independent monitors who witnessed the proceedings described the election as peaceful, free, and fair. They also praised the role of traditional authorities in maintaining discipline and ensuring that the process upheld the integrity expected of such an important local governance exercise. Their endorsement further reinforces public trust in the outcome and the legitimacy of the newly elected chief.

The absence of disputes or formal objections at the time of reporting underscores the general acceptance of the results by both candidates and the broader community. This smooth transition stands in contrast to past instances where local elections have been marred by tensions or contestations, making the Bombali Shebora experience a noteworthy example of electoral maturity.

Since the announcement of the results, congratulatory messages have continued to pour in from across Bombali District and beyond. Community members, stakeholders, and well wishers have expressed optimism that PC Bai Sebora N’gbalan II will prioritize unity, development, and effective traditional governance.

As he prepares to assume full responsibilities, expectations remain high for Usif Kamara to address key local challenges and strengthen the role of traditional leadership in community development. His election not only reflects the will of the people but also reinforces the importance of credible and peaceful electoral processes within Sierra Leone’s chieftaincy system.
