By: Mahamood Fofana

The Sierra Leone Broadcasters’ Association (SiLBA) has expressed profound grief over the passing of Saffie Kamara, a respected broadcaster and station manager of Shalom Radio in Kabala. Ms. Kamara passed away on March 31, 2026, following a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of dedication to community broadcasting and media development in Sierra Leone.

Saffie Kamara began her journey at Shalom Radio in 2018 as a volunteer, demonstrating exceptional commitment that earned her the role of Admin/Finance Officer. Her diligence and leadership skills eventually led to her appointment as Station Manager in 2025, a position she held with distinction until her passing.

In addition to her work at Shalom Radio, Saffie was pursuing her academic goals as a Year 2 student in the Bachelor of Business Administration and Management program at the College of Theology and Management in Freetown, showing her dedication to both professional and personal growth.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Ms. Kamara was an active member of several journalistic organizations, including the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and the Sierra Leone Association of Women in Journalism (SLAWIJ). Her involvement reflected a deep commitment to advancing the standards of broadcasting and supporting the development of media professionals, particularly women, across the country.

Her contributions have left a lasting impact, especially in Kabala, where she championed community focused broadcasting and helped nurture young talent in the media industry. Colleagues and community members alike remember her as passionate, driven, and unwavering in her dedication to service.

SiLBA, through its President Stanley Bangura Jr., the Executive, and the entire membership, extended heartfelt condolences to Ms. Kamara’s family, the management and staff of Shalom Radio, and all affected by her loss. The association prayed for God’s forgiveness of her shortcomings and eternal rest, affirming that her memory will remain a source of inspiration for broadcasters across Sierra Leone.

The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 2026, at the MCA Church, Bankolia, Kabala, where family, colleagues, and members of the media community will pay their final respects to a trailblazing broadcaster whose dedication and leadership set a benchmark in Sierra Leone’s media sector.
