Sierra Leone’s premier knockout football competition has secured a landmark corporate partnership following a multi-million-Leone sponsorship deal between the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and Orange Sierra Leone. The agreement formally rebrands the country’s flagship cup competition as the Orange FA Cup 2026, marking the first time the tournament has attracted headline corporate naming rights sponsorship.
The sponsorship package, valued at over NLe 1.8 million, represents one of the most significant private-sector investments in domestic football in recent years. The deal was signed on March 4, 2026, at the Orange Conference Hall in Hill Station, Freetown, in the presence of senior government officials and sports administrators. Among those in attendance were the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima, and the Deputy Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Abdulrahman Swarray.
The agreement was formally executed by SLFA President Babadi Kamara and Orange Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer Aicha Toure, signaling a structured collaboration aimed at enhancing both the commercial viability and operational capacity of the competition.
Beyond the direct financial injection, the partnership extends into technological infrastructure support for the SLFA. Orange will provide a Closed User Group (CUG) mobile communication system for SLFA personnel to streamline internal coordination. Additionally, the telecom company will install 60Mbps high-speed internet connectivity at the association’s headquarters in Freetown, strengthening digital operations, communication efficiency, and administrative workflow.
For years, Sierra Leone’s FA Cup has operated without a long-term commercial title sponsor, limiting its marketing leverage and revenue-generation potential. The new arrangement introduces structured branding, enhanced visibility, and promotional backing that stakeholders believe could elevate the competition’s profile nationally and regionally.
Football analysts view the deal as part of a broader strategy by the SLFA leadership to reposition domestic football within a sustainable commercial framework. Corporate naming rights not only increase prize competitiveness but also improve match organization, media engagement, and fan experience.
The rebranded Orange FA Cup 2026 is expected to attract heightened public attention and possibly inspire further corporate participation in league and grassroots competitions. If effectively managed, the partnership could serve as a template for future sponsorship models within Sierra Leone’s sports sector, reinforcing financial stability and restoring confidence in local football administration.
