The Presidential Initiative on Climate Change, Renewable Energy, and Food Security (PI-CREF) organized a one-day training for multi-sectoral stakeholders from the North, Northeast, and Western Area on food system governance, food security, and nutrition. The event was held on Monday, 26th January 2026, at MADAM Hall in Makeni.
Dr. Patrick Kormawa, Director of Food Security and Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation, highlighted the importance of nutrition and dietary diversification for a healthy and economically productive nation. “Research shows that a poor diet in children can lead to stunting and a nine-year reduction in IQ, which has broader economic implications,” he stressed.
Dr. Kormawa acknowledged the challenges in achieving comprehensive food security but expressed confidence that collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) would strengthen coordination among ministries from the district to national level, making the ‘Feed Salone’ initiative achievable.
Nenebah Jalloh, National Coordinator at Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) at the Vice President’s Office, praised the training and emphasized that political will and inter-ministerial collaboration are key to ending hunger and malnutrition by 2030.
Kadiatu D. Koroma, District Nutritionist in Koinadugu, commended PI-CREF for the initiative and promised to cascade the lessons learned to her district. “I have improved my knowledge in food system governance and food security, which I will share from the top down to the community level,” she said.
